In 1849 Arunah S. Macomber, as A. S. Macomber, was making wheelwright's machinery.

1849 New England Mercantile Union Business Directory, page 241, lists under Machinists, "Macomber, A. S. (lathes, &c.) E. Bennington." He is also listed as a maker of straw cutters.
