Information Sources

  • 1872 Trow's New York City Directory, text ad on page 165: "JAMES CASE, Vise and Anvil Maker and Repairer, 414 East 19th street, Bet. Ave A and First Ave), New York. Machine and General Blacksmith Work done on short notice." His listing, on page 187, only adds "h. B'klyn" to that information.
  • May 1892 The Hub, pages 59-60 has an article on the construction of vises, and the illustrations and process were courtesy James Case & Son, Brooklyn, N. Y. Illustrations accompany the article; the previous month's article was on the construction of anvils and was again based on a visit to James Case & Son. See the "Publication Reprints" tab to view this pair of articles.
