2,449,284 Sep. 14, 1948 Machine tool adapter Edward A. Dorman New Rochelle, NY This adapter is intended for multi-spindle drill presses where various chucks and other devices must frequently be placed on the spindle. A connector nut is mounted on the spindle and a coupling nut joins with the connector and an adapter with tool carrier. The specific example illustrated is a tapping head. The inventor was the "Son" of tapping- and drilling-head maker John H. Dorman & Son, active 1908 to at least 1922. After that time we cannot find any trace of the company, but then in 1946 we find mentions of the Dorman Machine Tool Works, makers of drilling and tapping heads.
