Ad in 1949 issue of Hitchcock's "Wood Working Digest". The ad shows their "compressed tenon machine", which compresses cylindrical tenons used in chairmaking; the tenons are cut about 1/32" oversize, and are then compressed to the exact size required to fit the bored hole.

A patent search turned up a 1941 patent to Frederick C. Valiton for the process of making compressed tenon joints, a 1951 patent for the machine, and two 1952 patents for a pneumatic assembly press.
