The company manufactured sheet metal machinery, including shears, crimping and beading machines, turning machines, wiring machines, and sheet metal handlers. The firm was organized as Barth Manufacturing Co. in April, 1941, by Edward G. Hackbarth. He was formerly vice president of Peck, Stow & Wilcox Co. of Southington, CT. Milldale is now a neighborhood in the town of Southington.
In July, 1944 the company bought Wright & Ellis Manufacturing Co., founded 1885, also of Milldale. In early 1953 the company reorganized as Barth Engineering & Manufacturing Co.
