Beginning in the late 19th century and continuing for about three decades, the Shawver Co. manufactured specialized machines for furniture makers and frame makers, including machines for making twist or fluted moldings, and miter sanders.

Information Sources

  • From an ad in the 10 September 1898 issue of "American Cabinet Maker and Upholsterer" for a twist machine (a machine that makes twisted moldings).
  • Ad in the May, 1925 issue of "The Wood-Worker", for the "Twist Machine - This machine will produce twist and spiral colums, balusters, table legs, and pedestals, chair post and spindles, etc., right and left turn."
  • An example turned up in an owwm.org forum discussion.
