By 1965, Dickson's (Engineering) Ltd. was making Dickson QCTP (quick change tool post) and tool holders. In 1970 Dickson's was acquired by the George Cohen 600 Group Ltd, which was in the midst of a series of acquisitions of British machine tool manufacturers. The Dickson name lived on for some years in association with the QCTP line.

The 600 Group acquires Dickson's (Engineering) Ltd.

`ALL THE issued share capital of Dicksons' (Engineering) Ltd., manufacturers of machine tool accessories, has been acquired by the George Cohen 600 Group Ltd. The total consideration has been satisfied partly in cash and partly by the allotment, credited as fully paid up, of 253 334 ordinary stock units of 5s each in the capital of the George Cohen 600 Group Ltd. Dickson's, which has a well-equipped and modern factory at Farnham, Surrey, is Britain's largest producer of tool posts for lathes. They also specialise in the design and manufacture of pre-setting equipment for those machine tools including centre lathes, capstans and vertical borers, which are fitted with direct digital read-out systems.

Tool posts are produced by the Company for a wide range of lathes having a swing over bed from 7in to 30in. Several lathe users have reported increase of up to 20 per cent in productivity when using the Dickson's quick change tool post. An important advantage is that it can be quickly set up, or interchanged, while accurately maintaining the tool positions. Furthermore, down or idle time is drastically reduced are achieved, irrespective of whether the batch quantity produced is small or large.

Dickson's tool posts may be fitted with any number of tools without resetting. No packing or shimming is required to obtain the correct height as this is easily adjusted by the knurled sleeve on the tool holder. Moreover, tools can be re-ground in their holders, thus eliminating the additional packing and re-shimming operations with convention tool posts. The company also produces 'specials' which are adaptations of their standard range of tool posts and, during the past two years tool posts worth more than £50 000 have been supplied to the motor car and general industries for specialized work in N. C. vertical boring machines. Dickson's pre-setting fixtures, when used with their tool posts, ensure that tools can be set with a high degree of accuracy on a pre-determined datum line. By allying tools set this in this way on centre lathes fitted with direct digital read-out equipment, it is possible to turn components to an accuracy within 0.0006in.

The acquisition of Dickson's (Engineering) Ltd., marks a further extension of the George Cohen 500 Group's machine tool interests, particularly in the manufacture and marketing of machine tool accessories.
