The Standard Machinery Co. of Mystic (formerly Mystic River), Conn., was in business by 1889 making paper cutting and book binding machinery. Those categories of machines are not of interest to us, but in 1911 they were making Coit's patent ball-bearing drill chucks, which are of interest.

From August 1911 Machinery

The company survived until at least 1956. The drill chucks, however, seem to have been a short-lived venture and in 1911 Coit's (patent) drill press chucks were being manufactured by the Narragansett Machine Co. of Providence, RI.

Information Sources

  • August 1911 Machinery v. 17 Part 2, p. 166. Ad from Standard Machinery Co., Mystic, Conn., for Coit's ball bearing drill chuck.
  • A quick web search gave us data points spanning 1889 to 1956. Data points after about 1920 were very sparse. In 1889 they were "sole manufacturer of the 'Excelsior' paper cutting machine"; in 1900 they were "sole manufacturers of the Steam Power Backing Machine".
