In 1866 Allison & Bannan (Robert Allison and Fraser B. Bannan ) were operating the Franklin Iron Works in Port Carbon, Pa., and manufacturing a portable boring machine adapted for boring shaft-holes in flywheels and the like.

  • 1866-06-09 Scientific American has an illustrated article on this firm's patent-pending portable metal boring machine. The invention would be granted patent 58,568 in October of that year, the patent being granted to Robert Allison and witnessed by Fraser B. Bannan.
