In March 1895 the Model Shingle Planer Co. was established to manufacture a shingle planing machine that had been patented earlier that year; a second patent was issued in August. The two patents were both granted to one William J. Pugh of Iowa, and the company was run by one J. J. Russell, with co-incorporators J. G. Downey and E. G. Conger. The business address was 167 Dearborn St., Chicago.
We have not found any data points on the company after 1895 so it would appear that the business was short-lived. See also our entry for Champion Shingle Planer Co., which was co-founded by inventor William J. Pugh, and which also failed to find success.
