Designed to attach to a sawhorse to aid in holding work pieces. One known example is marked "CHAMPION GENEVA O. PAT'D 1-2-17". Another example is marked with the Sears Roebuck "Craftsman" logo plus the patent number; Sears sold this vise as their model 9-5202 Craftsman portable L jaw woodworker's vise. The 1919-01-15 issue of The Industrial Record has an illustrated writeup: "A practical woodworker's vise, No. 555, has just been placed on the market by the Champion Hardware Company, of Geneva, Ohio. The vise is so simple in construction that it is always ready for any job. It weighs only 4 pounds, can be carried in the carpenter's kit, and will fasten to anything from 7/8 to 2¼ inches thick.
