J. D. Duffy & Son of Detroit, MI, developed the Univertical swivel-head milling machine and began manufacturing it in 1940. The rights were soon sold to Charles T. Walker, who founded Univertical Machine Co. to manufacture the line of milling machines beginning in 1942. Univertical also made a line of non-ferrous hammers.
