R. Munroe & Son, operators of West Point Boiler Works, was known for its steam boilers and boiler appliances. The company also manufactured steam locomotives, and one preserved 4-4-0 is at a German amusement park, Erlebnispark Schloss Thurn, in Heroldsbach, Bayern (Bavaria). The works was in Pittsburgh's Strip District at 23rd and Smallman St. The plant suffered a devastating explosion of their own boiler on Mar. 14, 1899.
By the 1950s, the company was named R. Munroe & Sons Manufacturing Corp., and making industrial tanks.
