E. J. Manville Machine Co. was a competitor to Manville Brothers Co., also of Waterbury. This is confirmed by directories in which they both appear, such as The Iron Age Directory, Vol. 14, 1911, where both companies are listed under wire forming machines and foot presses. A review of newspaper articles and advertising finds the first mention of E. J. Manville Machine Co. in 1901.
