During at least the 1910s and '20s, Frederic B. Stevens sold supplies for foundry, buffing and plating shops. A 1918 ad shows a buffing machine bearing the Stevens name, and a 1927 catalog from Stevens features their pedestal-mounted buffers and polishers. Both the ad and the catalog imply that they manufactured these items themselves.
A 1922 article shows a buffing machine from Mitchell Engineering Co. of Springfield, Ohio, that is very similar to the 1918 Stevens model mentioned above. Even the model number the same. Either one firm was manufacturing this machine for the other, or Mitchell took over that product from Stevens.
