The inventor was the son of Samuel B. Schenck, who was one of the three members of the Woodworth planer patent syndicate (see patent 5,315). The elder Schenck founded Schenck Machine Co., which seems to have become John B. Schenck Co. in 1869 or 1870. John B. Schenck died six months after this patent was issued. Seen on a circular rip saw labeled "Schenck Machine Works, John B. Schenck's Sons, Proprietors, Matteawan, NY. Pat'd Feb 8, 1870". |
