This little-known company was in business in 1889 (and probably before) until 1936 (and probably after). They made circular sawmills, excelsior (wood-shaving) machines, and other sawmill machinery. There is one report that the company became much better known for their automotive bodies.

From May 1889 "The Wood Worker"

Information Sources

  • Listed in C. H. Wendel's The Circular Sawmill, which reproduces an illustration from a 1891 issue of "The Age of Steel". Another illustration is taken from an 1896 advertisement.
  • We have seen, on eBay, an 1897 catalog of 144 pages: "Illustrated catalogue of Fisher & Davis, manufacturers of engines, boilers, carriages, circular saw mills, gang edgers, head blocks, trimmers, and general mill machinery."
  • The Silver Dollar City shop in Branson, MO, has a Fisher & Davis 18" planer.
  • The U. S. Forest Products Laboratory published a booklet dated March 1936, Operating small sawmills, methods, bibliography, and sources of equipment by C. J. Telford. A table lists the makers of various types of equipment, including circular sawmills, band sawmills, edgers, and planers. This company was listed as a maker of circular sawmills, sawblades, edgers, belting, and steam boilers and engines.
