Acme Industrial Co. was established in 1914 to manufacture drill bushings, dowel pins and the like. In the 1950s the company developed an attachment for turret lathes, the Hydrive, which is manufactured and sold. The Hydrive was followed by the Hytron, a fully automatic turret lathe. At some point they also manufactured punches.
In 1970 the company relocated from Chicago to Carpentersville. In 1973 the business was acquired by tooling component manufacturer Jergens, Inc., and all of Acme Industrial's divisions, other than drill bushings, were sold off. They subsequently added thread repair inserts to their lineup. Acme Industrial remains in business today but is long out of the business of making metalworking machinery.
