Barrett Vise & Tool Co. was established in 1881 by the Barrett brothers James O., Charles, and William, to manufacture vises and horizontal cylinder boring machines designed by James. In 1906 James's sons, Frank N. Barrett and George W. Barrett, took over from their uncles Charles and William and renamed the firm, Barrett Machine Tool Co. In 1913 the company incorporated with a capital of $100,000. The founders were James O., C. J., Frank N., and George W. Barrett and the firm was renamed Barrett Machine Tool Co., Inc..
There is some connection to Meadville Vise Co. but the relationship is unclear.
