Pratt Chuck Co. was founded by Charles T. Pratt in 1891, and made drill chucks and other products. In 1918 they acquired the assets of Oneida National Chuck Co., and thereafter operated both their original plant in Frankfort, NY, and the former Oneida National Chuck plant in Oneida, NY.

    A Strong Argument for Their Goods
    A notice has been sent out from the headquarters of the Pratt Chuck Company, Frankford, N. Y., which copmreises a copy of a report by an expert in metallurgy who has examined the Electrical Galvanized Radiator Nipples made by this concern and states that the samples show wan excellent quality of electrical zinc coating of sufficient thickness to afford protection against corrosion in the service for which they are intended.
  • A 1916 lawsuit, Dobbins v. Pratt Chuck Co., provides some insight into Pratt Chuck Co.'s business at that time.

    Pratt Chuck Co. (The).—Inc. in Jan. 1891, in N. Y. Manufacturers chucks, steel drawings and stampings and armored conductors, steel outlet boxes, locknuts, bushings and electrical fittings, radiator and boiler nipples, chaplets, etc. In May, 1918, acquired the entire capital stock of the Oneida National Chuck Co. of Oneida, N. Y.; the Oneida plant is now operated under the name of Pratt Chuck Co. Plant located at Frankfort and Oneida, N. Y.
    Pratt Fork & Hoe Corp.—In June, 1916, stockholders of the Pratt Chuck Co. voted to separate the fork and hoe department from the general business. A corporation was formed called the Pratt Fork & Hoe Corp., capitalized at $800,000, of of which stock was owned by the Pratt Chuck Co., which took over all the assets and business of the fork and hoe department. In July, 1917, however, the Pratt Chuck Co. sold all the stock of the Pratt Ford & Hoe Corp. to the Union Fork and Hoe Co., and the Pratt Chuck Co. is no longer connected with the steel goods business.
    Capital Stock.—Authorized and outstanding, $800,000 Com. and $150,000 7% cumulative Pfd.; par, $100. No funded debt. Pfd. stock has preference as to assets and is subject to redemption on any dividend date at 110. Stock transferred at company's office.
    Dividends.Dividends on Pfd. regularly paid quarterly, J, A, J & O; on Com., at rate of 8% per annum on July 1, 1921; none since; payments formerly made quartly, F, M, A & N. A stock divident of 100% on Com. stock was paid in 1917.

  • A 1928 lawsuit heard by the New York Supreme Court was a messy affair that involved, in small part, a 1926 agreement for one Joseph Samuels, d.b.a. Security Muffler Co., to sell automobile mufflers made by Pratt Chuck Co. on behalf of the American Gear Co., Inc. The lawsuit essentially reveal Samuels to be a con artist who scammed American Gear Co., Inc., among several others.
  • Trademark 293,217: "Pratt Chuck Company, The, Frankfort, N. Y. Exhaust mufflers and mufflers for explosive engines and parts and attachments for such mufflers. 293,217; Apr. 12 [1931]. Class 23." The marks consists of the word, "SPIRAL".

    Pratt Chuck Works, Frankfort, N.Y.
    The Pratt was one of the few 6-wheeler cars produced in the U.S. Four wheels were mounted at the rear and two at the front. Both the front and the intermediate set were steerable, the intermediate pair turning in a lesser angle than the leading pair. Power was supplied by a 75hp engine to the rear pair of wheels only , through the medium of an ordinary transmission gear and a 2-part rear-axle shaft. The touring-car, the only model listed, was 14ft long.
