In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, Frank Pearn & Co., Ltd. (sometimes F. Pearn & Co., Ltd.) manufactured horizontal boring mills and boring-bar machines, (lathes specialized for boring operations). It appears that, starting in about 1912, some of their boring-machine patents were used by H. W. Kearns & Co., Ltd.
