354,773 Dec. 21, 1886 Buzz-planer Frank H. Clement Rochester, NY This patent is sometimes cited as the patent for the wedge-bed design, but Jonathan Grosvenor was first, 12 years previous; see patent 152,364. Clement is more explicit about the advantages of this design: "The triangular adjusting-slides are very rigid, being cast in one piece. The adjusting devices can be all arranged in the adjusting-slides, and need have no connection with the tables directly. The upper faces of the slides ca be planed off together after they are fitted to the frame, so that absolute truth of the table-surface can thus be assured without subsequent hand-fitting or adjusting of any kind, it being assumed, of course, that the upper and under surfaces of the tables themselves are first parallel—a comparatively simple matter to accomplish." Another advantage of the wedge-bed design is that the tables do not take the strain of raising the tables, which in other designs can cause them to spring slightly. Clement's design includes a means for making "sprung" joints, which involved loosening setscrews to allow the outfeed table to sag.

1,113,152 Oct. 06, 1914 Cut-off gage for sawing-machines Frank H. Clement Rochester, NY "My invention relates to that class of cut-off gages which is used in connection with a movable table arranged to slide parallel with the saw either on ways or friction rollers, and it consists principally in the application of a stop pin to an angularly adjustable cut-off gage in connection with a sliding block and clamp wheel for setting the fence of the gage at any required angle."
1,113,153 Oct. 06, 1914 Machine-gage Frank H. Clement Rochester, NY "My invention relates to gages or work guides for wood working and other machines and it consists essentially in a tilting fence linked to a rock shaft and operated by a hand lever which is used to adjust the fence from a right angle to forty-five degrees or any intermediate point."
