USPTO = U.S. Patent Office . Images of the actual patent can be viewed on the U.S. Patent Office web site but a special TIFF viewer must be installed with your browser in order properly work. More information on how to configure your computer to view these patents can be found at TIFF image Viewers for Patent Images.
DATAMP = Directory of American Tool And Machinery Patents . A sister site to VintageMachinery.org with information on patents related to machinery and tools. A much easier user interface than the USPTO's for finding information on machinery patents.

429,939 Jun. 10, 1890 Valve-reseating machine Charles L. 530,468 Dec. 04, 1894 Gage Lucius O. Barrett Brattleborough, VT Here, Lucius Barrett improves upon his original roller gage patent (384,413) by using a clever arm locking scheme that allows both arms to be locked with a single screw. Other than the locking mechanism, this gage is identical to the original.
This tool was produced in large quantites by the Leavitt Machine Company, and are thus fairly common. There are also known examples of the same tool manufactured by Robbins & Cowles, but these are significantly more scarce.
Interestingly, both manufacturers marked the tool with the date of Barrett's first patent (6/12/88), rather than this one.
