In 1860 Gallon, Bean & Lumb was manufacturing a solid-chisel mortising and boring machine that was patented in 1859 by the three men—Henry Gallon, Joseph Henry Bean and Samuel Lumb. The distributor was a separate partnership, Gallon & Bean. Both partnerships were dissolved in 1862.

Notice is hereby given, that the Partnership heretofore subsisting and carried on by us the undersigned, Henry Gallon, Samuel Lumb, and Joseph Henry Bean, at the Whitehall Works, in Leeds, in the county of York, as Machine and Tool Makers, under the style or firm of Gallon, Lumb, and Bean, has this day been dissolved by mutual consent so far as regards the undersigned, Joseph Henry Ben.—As witness our hands this 30th day of April, 1862.
