Image Description:
The essential feature of this engine (Fig. 196) is that the cylinder and the pipes connected therewith are placed inside a steam chamber situated over the fire box, and in free communication with the boiler. By this means all necessity for "steam jacketing" the cylinder in the ordinary way is dispensed with, and as it is entirely removed from the effects of the atmosphere there is equally no necessity for lagging, the cylinder being raised nearly to the temperature of the steam before the engine commences working.

In other respects the engine is similar to others of the same class, and is fitted with governor, three-valved pump, wrought-iron traveling-wheels, and all the usual mountings. The firebox is of Lowmoor plate, constructed for burning coal or wood, and the heating surface is large per horse-power. The boiler is tested by hydraulic pressure up to 120 lbs. per square inch before leaving the works.

Prices. — 2½ horse-power £105; 4 horsepower £150; 6 horse-power £180; 10 horsepower £240.
