COMPOUND PORTABLE ENGINE.
We illustrate above a compound portable engine built to a special order by Messrs. C. Burrell and Sons, St. Nicholas Works, Thetford. The general features of the engine are identical with those of their well-known compound road locomotive, the two piston-rods laying hold of a single cross-head. This particular engine has been constructed without regard to expense, and is about as good as it in possible to make in a portable engine.
