H. W. Ward & Co.'s new flat turret lathe is shown in Fig. 240. It is very solidly built, and is a happy combination of several familiar features in recent lathe construction. The feed provides for 40 variations, from 4 per inch to 300 per inch, and it can be reversed for turning towards and away from the headstock. There is a separate independent stop for each tool, while the flat turret avoids overhang, and permits of the use of simple tools. The chuck has automatic action while the lathe is running; the head is friction-geared. Bars from ¾ in. to 2½ in. can be inserted, and a diameter of 2 in. can be reduced in one cut. Lubrication is provided for with a pump and fittings. |
