Fig. 192 illustrates a lathe by John Lang & Sons, of Johnstone, in which the American raised vees and weighted carriage are adopted. It is of 6-in. centres, ungeared, and it is intended for the lighter work of sliding small shafts, studs, etc. The self-acting sliding is through cones with three changes of feed. There is quick hand-traverse by rack and pinion, and a square turret on the slide-rest for four tools. It is fitted with the friction feed of this firm. The headstock is cast solid with the bed, the spindle is of hard crucible, parallel bearings of gun-metal. The poppet is of the set-over type. |
