The machine shown in Fig. 7 is made by the Pratt & Whitney Co., and marks a step in advance in the evolution of the planer type miller. Here the cross rail and top rail are absent; the housings have developed into wide faced, substantial columns, secured to a large base, the entire framework being sufficiently rigid not to need the top tie bar. The feeding and elevating mechanisms are placed at the front of the base; operating and adjusting levers are within easy reach of the operator, which greatly adds to the convenience of handling. The heads may be operated and adjusted simultaneously or independently, to suit conditions, and the uprights can be adjusted to and from the table. |
