Engines and boilers for export — In Catalogue No. 36, Messrs. Orr & Sembower, Inc., of Reading, Pa., U. S. A., describe and illustrate a very extensive line of engines and boilers now being offered to the foreign trade. The firm state that there are at the present time no less than 54,000 “O & S” engines and boilers in successful use. These are of small and medium sizes, varying from 1½ to 75 H P., and are therefore adapted to a very wide range of requirements. The firm make a specialty of small vertical engines, their class B-F vertical engine, for example, being offered in seven sizes—1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 14 and 20-H.P. These engines are very strong, heavy in construction, but well proportioned, and will stand hard work and high speed. A critical steam test of every engine is made before it leaves the factory and the necessary adjustments carefully made so that the engine is ready to run the moment it is placed In position and given steam. This is a disc-crank engine and a similar type known as Class B is built in larger sizes expressly for mill and factory purposes, the sizes being 25, 50 and 75-H.P. Another line, Class A-F, comprises center crank engines. A new line of vertical engines, known as Class F, has recently been placed on the market and is made In nine sizes up to 15-H.p. This engine, an illustration of which is shown herewith, is in great demand for creameries, laundries, for use in connection with concrete mixing machinery and many other industries where a small, reliable power plant is required. If desired the engine can be furnished combined with suitable boiler. The firm also make a great variety of horizontal engines, marine engines, hoisting engines and contractors' hoisting engines, direct-connected with boiler, double drum, etc. The line of boilers includes both vertical and horizontal boilers In numerous different styles and sizes. The Illustration shows the Class E full length tube vertical boiler, built with the shell extended, thereby obviating the use of the octagon base. This is an advantage when space is limited and also reduces the weight considerably, making quite a saving in freight on export shipments. These boilers are made of open-hearth, flanged steel plate, having a tensile strength of 60,000 pounds per square inch of section. For copy of catalogue No. 36, describing these engines and boilers, address the manufacturers direct. |
