Fig. 262 represents a full- universal portable machine constructed by Kendall & Gent, Limited. The supporting column is mounted upon a slide, along which it can be moved by a screw and hand ratchet gear. On one end of the radial arm is mounted the universally adjustable spindle saddle, while the other end carries a variable-speed motor for driving the spindle. Another independent motor is mounted on the column head for elevating the radial arm, and a magnetic brake is fitted to stop the machine quickly as soon as the current supply is cut off. The arm can be adjusted horizontally by a screw and handwheel gear and can be swung readily upon a ball bearing by means of a worm and worm wheel, which can be disengaged to permit of more rapid movement. |
