A large portable multiple-spindle radial drilling machine, designed by the same makers for drilling the cover plates of turbo-generators, laid down on various parts of the shop floor-plate, is illustrated in fig. 261. There are four main spindles and four auxiliary spindles mounted on the two arms, and eight holes can be drilled simultaneously. Provision is made for varying the centres of the spindles, which are driven through a variable- speed countershaft from one motor, mounted on the top of the column. Hydro-pneumatic arrangements are adopted for elevating the radial arms, which can be securely locked in position when raised to the required height. |
