"54-58 East 2nd St; The H. J. Averbeck Shaper Co., Machine Shop", circa 1910. The company name appears to be painted or scratched onto the photo negative. This would have been the building where Henry and Lawrence Averbeck ran a general machine shop business. Then in 1903 or '04 Henry began designing and patenting an improved shaper, and they went into the business of manufacturing shapers out of their machine shop. They were moderately successful in this endeavor, but in 1920 they sold the shaper business and resumed the machine-shop business, still in the same building. |
