Improved Grinding Machine.
The improved patent grinding machine shown in our illustration, for grinding large surfaces true, in addition to the ordinary class of work emery wheels are used for, is from a new pattern manufactured by the Diamond Emery Wheel and Machine Co., of Providence, R. I. Its weight is 2,500 pounds, and will run wheels 42 inches in diameter spindle 2½ inches in diameter between the flanges, and bearings 10 inches long, having a patent device for excluding emery dust.
The surface attachment will admit of using emery wheels from 1 to 6 inches thick. It can be raised or lowered at the will of the operator. Screw and nut, with all bearing parts, arc secure from emery dust. The elbow rest extending along the side and across the center of the wheel admits the grinding of certain classes of work which can be better done upon the side of a wheel than on the face. The machine is made lo run with a belt 6 inches wide, and has a counter-shaft with Hadley's patent belt-shifting device.
The range of emery wheel machinery built by this company extends from machines designed to run wheels from 1 to 42 inches. It is claimed to be the most complete of any manufactured.
They have new and special machines upon which emery wheels are used. Their new patterns in polishing, buffing and strap-polishing machines cover every requirement such machines are used for. |
