Fig. 10 shows a motor-driven high-speed mortising and boring machine, by W. B. Haigh & Co., Ltd., Globe Works, Oldham.
In this machine, the electric motor is coupled directly on to the driving shaft and makes some 500 revolutions per minute. It is of the four pole enclosed ventilated type, with a slotted drum armature. The housing is of cast-steel of high magnetic permeability, and the bearings are self-oiling. it is claimed by the makers that this motor is sparkless at all loads, and is of high efficiency. The machine itself shows the most up-to-date practice in power mortising and boring, in addition to being an excellent example of an electrically-driven wood-working appliance. |
