This machine, with its recent improvements, embodies many new advantages which entitle it to a place among the most perfect tenon cutters yet introduced. The manufacturers’ long practical experience has enabled them to introduce many new points, and they have no hesitation in recommending this machine. A glance at the cut shows its solidity and strength, as well as the convenience and neatness of design.
The frame is s pedestal, cast al in one piece, and the pedestal or support makes the best and most advantageous place to run the belt, faces the driving pulleys in the most convenient position.
The steel arbors on which the heads run are of extra hard steel, work in Babbitted boxes.
The heads being of much smaller diameter than our No. 3 machine, can run at a very high rate of speed and will cut extra smooth and quick, the cut being on the shear plan.
The heads, raise and lower simultaneously or independently, by one hand wheel; without letting go of this hand wheel one head or both can be raised or lowered. The upper head and spindle and boxes are adjustable horizontally in other slides, so as to cut one shoulder of tenon deeper than the other.
The driving pulleys are placed close up to journals, and the belt runs with clearance, and when once laced up, is always strained by our patent tightener.
The table is light and strong, and works very easily and quickly, and has our patent stops for getting exact length of tenon to be cut, and enables the operator to walk clear beyond the heads in cutting the tenon, without striking his knees, or having to lean over so far as to lose control of the piece being tenoned. The outer end of table is held up by a combined swinging pivoted frame, and is a new departure. It will be found far ahead of any other device, and gives an easy swinging motion. For extra-long stuff the extension bar can be adjusted. The table is also gibbed under the slides so by no possible means can the end of table be thrown into the cutter-heads, as is the case with most other machines. This is safety and economy combined.
For cabinet makers, furniture manufacturers, carpenters and plaining mills this machine has no superior, and is easily adapted for chair, wagon, spoke and other work; cut off attachment is put on when ordered.
The L. & T. pulleys are 8 x 3½ in. and should make 850 revolutions.
