CHILLED ROLL GRINDING MACHINE
The chilled roll grinding machine is designed to grind rolls of the kind used by corn millers. It will take in rolls up to 3 ft. in length and 12 in. in diameter; the roll is carried in bearings on the table, which is reciprocated endwise after the manner of a planing machine table, but at a slower speed. At each end of the stroke the motion of the screw is reversed by means of adjustable tappets on the side of the table; these tappets come alternately into contact with a lever which in the first part of its stroke compresses a spring, and in the latter part is carried to the end of the stroke by the extension of the same spring, so as to avoid all chance of the feed being stopped. The grinding wheel is of corundum, and is mounted on slide j. The whole forms a substantial well-made machine, and is shown by the makers, Messrs. Luke and Spencer, of Ardwick, Manchester, at the Exhibition now being held in that town. |
