Emery Roller Grinders. — The grinder (fig. 124) known as the Luke & Spencer Emery Roller Machine is capable of doing a variety of work, such as grinding out bushes, wagon brasses, bearings, hollowing shaft keys, dressing or fettling pulley arms, or other similar irregular and curved work.
The machine, as seen at fig. 124, is arranged for fixing upon a bench. Each end of the spindle forms a chuck for receiving the emery rollers, which are mounted upon wrought iron mandrills turned to fit into the chucks. There are five rollers in a set, each 6 inches long, their respective diameters being 1 inch, 1½ inches, 2 inches, 2½ inches, and 3 inches. The box spanner seen lying upon the bench is for changing the rollers. |
