Variable-speed belt-gearing
|
Carl Edward Tannewitz |
Grand Rapids, MI |
This lathe belt system has been seen on a Tannewitz lathe—a quite uncommon machine. This variable-speed belt system uses a separate belt for each speed. Each belt is loose so that it normally hangs without contacting the drive pulley at the bottom. The idler pulley is moved in front of one of the belts and levered forward, which forces that belt into contact with the drive pulley. |

Band-saw wheel

Grand Rapids, MI |
This wheel-and-tire design has been in continuous use on Tannewitz bandsaws since this patent was applied for in 1927. This patent covers the tire; the rest of the wheel is covered by patent 1,645,552. The better-known, but similar, Carter bandsaw wheel and tire were developed a couple of years after Tannewitz's design; see patents 1,765,402, 1,765,403, and 1,811,916. |
