Sawing appliance

There are two major innovations: a tilting-arbor mechanism and an improved retractable guard; other improvements are a cutout in the guard so the operator can see the cut line, and a means of clearing sawdust from the cut line. J. D. Wallace & Co. used this patent in what was probably the first commercially successful small tilting-arbor tablesaw (see patent 77,606 for Jonathan Grosvenor's much earlier but larger tilting-arbor saw). The blade-guard portion of this patent was licensed by Wappat Gear Works for their handheld circular saws. |

Clifford H. Landis |
Chicago, IL |
"This invention relates to power machines, particularly electric motors, and more especially to those which are designed compactly as direct connected electric motor driven units, such for instance as mortisers and the like. The improvements herein referred to reside in the 'head' or tool operating part and more specifically the motor, as distinct from the work holding part. The main objects of the invention are to provide improved means for protecting the machine, especially the motor with its commutator and bearings, from dust; and to provide improved means for controlling the flow, distribution and drainage of lubricating oil." |
