Improvements on tire upsetting machines
|
Andrew Bell Jardine |
ON, Canada |
"This invention has reference to the construction of machines for upsetting tires and has for its object to catch the tire to be upset regardless of inequalities in the thickness of the said tire and to leave the heated part of the tire while being upset uncovered by the mechanism of the upsetter so that it may be hammered to take out the buckle or set caused by upsetting, while at the same time the motion of one lever will raise or lower both eccentric dogs or catches of the upsetter thus catching or relieving the tire to be upset and my invention consists of a lever, a connecting link and two connecting straps in combination with two eccentric dogs or catches for catching the tire." |

Collapsible tap
|
Peter Jardine |
ON, Canada |
"My invention relates to improvements in collapsible taps, and relates more particularly to a tap of this class which can be used for threading parallel and tapered bores or holes, and one object of the invention is to securely lock the component parts of the tap in expanded position and to provide automatic means whereby the said component parts are unlocked and fully collapsed at the proper time irrespective of the character of the work the tool may be doing. Another object of the invention is to permit the component parts of the tap to be manually re-set by one operation and so quickly positioned for use, at which time the parts of the tap are locked. A still further object of the invention is to make the tool adjustable so that the component parts of the tap may be adjusted to tap holes or bores of different diameters..." "My invention relates to improvements in presses, and relates more particularly to that type of press used for various purposes in machine shops and similar places, and one of the objects of my invention is to rapidly relieve the pressure of the ratchet-hand wheel against the screw, so that the said wheel may be then readily turned by hand to elevate or lower the screw. Another object of my invention is to provide counter-balanced means to remove certain actuating means for the ratchet-hand wheel out of the path of movement of this wheel at certain times..." |

"This invention relates to devices used on pipe cutting and threading apparatus to center the pipe while it is being operated on, and particularly to that type in which the same apparatus may be used to center pipe of various diameters within the limit of the apparatus, and the object of the present invention is to devise apparatus of this type which may be very simple, quickly and accurately set, and by means of which the pipe will be very firmly held." |

Pipe-threading apparatus
|
James Valtin Jardine |
ON, Canada |
"This invention relates to apparatus used for threading pipe, rods and the like. The chasers used in threading pipe are tapered, so that the end of the pipe when threaded is also tapered. With apparatus as heretofore used, the dies are stationary, with the result that as the threading proceeds, more and more of the threads of the chaser come into engagement with the pipe, the first cut threads being made gradually deeper and deeper in order to secure the tapered thread, and a gradually increasing amount of power is required to effect the cutting. My chief object therefore is to devise apparatus which will require a less amount of power to drive and which will permit of more rapid operation. As pipe fittings manufactured in different plants have not always exactly the same size of thread, so that a given piece of pipe will have a loose fit with one batch of fittings and a tight fit with another batch, a further object of my invention is therefore to provide means whereby pipe may be cut to suit the different sizes of threads of the fittings employed. A still further object is to provide convenient means for removing the burr usually formed on the interior of the pipe during the cutting operation." |
