Founded in 1856 by three brothers, James, Joseph & Richard Tangye. In 1857 two more brothers, George & Edward joined the firm, which was reorganized as James Tangye and Brothers, machinists. In 1859 they took George Price into partnership and the company became Tangye Brothers and Price. By 1865 the company was known as Tangye Brothers; in 1876 we see the name Tangye Brothers & Holman, and by 1878 it was back to just Tangye Brothers. In about 1880 the name became Tangyes Ltd.
