As Poole & Hunt, the firm manufactured Leffel double turbine water-wheels, stationary steam engines, boilers, mill gearing, pulleys, and other mill equipment. This partnership of Robert Poole and German H. Hunt was dissolved Dec. 31, 1888, succeeded by Robert Poole and his son George Poole, operating as Robert Poole & Son Co.
One of Poole & Hunt's most notable achievement was casting the iron supporting elements of the U. S. Capitol dome, its peristyle columns, and structural elements for the House and Senate wings. The firm also built the derricks, hoisting engines, and other construction equipment for the Capitol dome project.
About 1880, the firm built a pit-lathe at their plant which was capable of turning 100-ft. diameter work.
