Pipe-Wrench
|
William Crumbie |
Rouseville, PA |
This improvement on William C. Abbe's Aug. 20, 167 patent (no. 67,937) has smooth jaw faces with a single adjustable "tooth." A sliding latch prevents the jaws from swinging far enough to disengage.
"Crumbie's Tongs" appear in an 1892 Oil Well Supply Company catalog, and some known examples without the sliding latch have "O. W. S. Co." forged in the head parts. The design also appears marked NORRIS BROTHERS / ROBINSON, ILLINOIS and JARECKI MFG. CO. [Erie, PA] (with the patent date). |
