Founded in 1867, by T. Duncan Paret. He was the inventor of Tanite, which was made from waste leather scraps, called skivings. The Tanite was used as a binder in Emery wheels along with a substitute for Vulcanite and Gutta-Percha in combs and picture frames. The material could be moulded under heat and pressure into a variety of shapes. The company closed in 1924 after a disastrous fire.
