The B. C. Ames Co. was founded in 1901 by Bliss C. Ames as a successor to Alcorn & Ames. He started with small bench lathes and added a line of small milling machines in 1905. The company closed in 1946. At some point in time, the company also went under the name Ames Precision Machine Works.
