The Abenaque Machine Works was established by Frederick Gilbert in 1893, and made gasoline engines. Other products included compressors, water pumps, drag saws, and circular ripsaws.
At its peak, the company employed forty people. The business filed for bankruptcy in 1915, was bought out, went bankrupt again in 1921, and was then bought out and moved to Marlborough, NH. Only parts were made in Marlborough.
