This nearly forgotten company made lathes and other machinery. Note that the Lathe in the company name is a surname of one of the partners, Martin Lathe. The company was originally formed in 1845, as S. C. Coombs & Co., a partnership of Samuel C. Coombs, Russell R. Shepard and Martin Lathe. It was reorganized in 1853 as Shepard, Lathe & Co., when Coombs left and Lathe & Morse, in 1864, when Shepard left.
Do not confuse this company with the Shepard Lathe Co of Cincinnati, OH.
