|
William H. Gates |
New Haven, New Haven County, CT |
This patent was improved by patent #1,358,074.
Claim:
In combination with a die head carrying radially operating threading dies and a longitudinally operating shell embracing the head, of cam studs secured to the shell and passing through said head and supported thereby, said dies having cam grooves formed in their cutting faces and over their cutting edges adapted to register with the cam portion of the studs to actuate the radial movement of the dies to open and close, locking mechanism carried by the head and engaging the shell to hold the shell in an advanced position, and means for releasing the locking mechanism. |

Die Head
|
William H. Gates |
New Haven, New Haven County, CT |
This patent was improved upon in patent #1,464,177.
Claim:
My invention relates to thread cutting tools of tile character known in the trade as "'die heads," it being an improvement on the patent granted to me August-3, 1915, No. 1,148,510. One of the several improved features of the present construction consists in locating the cam, for actuating the threading dies, ini close proximity to the axis of the die head, thus greatly reducing the size of the die head for cutting threads on small screws and work of like character.
In combination with a die head carrying radially operating threading dies and a shell embracing the head carrying cam studs engaging the dies, said head having a shank, a cam lever having a bore provided with internal cam grooves, means on the shank to register with said grooves, said cam lever rotatably mounted on the shank and located in workable relation with the shell to actuate said shell to close the dies. |

Die Head
|
William H. Gates |
New Haven, New Haven County, CT |
Known as the H & G Die Head.
Claim:
My invention relates to that class of thread cutting tools of the character known in the trade as "die heads," it being an improvement on the patent granted to me November 9, 1920, No. 1,358,074. In my former patent, the die actuating cam, studs were anchored to a shell having a sliding movement over the die carrying head, and the means for holding the die head against rotation comprised a pin anchored in the shank of the die head with its projecting ends intended to have a free movement in elongated slots in the sides of the hollow shank of the overhanging bracket. This arrangement was located so close to the axis of the die head that the grip of the dies on the work would produce such a torsional strain on the pin that the dies would cramp and would not readily let go of the work when the end of the thread was reached. |

Die Head
|
Carl W. Bettcher |
New Haven, New Haven County, CT |
My invention relates to an improvement in die heads adapted for use in connection with automatic machines, wherein the die head spindle rotates while the stock, on which the thread is cut, remains stationary.
Claim:
In combination with die head mechanism comprising a member carrying radially operating threading dies, a member slidably mounted thereon and carrying means for opening and closing the dies, and also carrying a trip lever for locking the closed dies and unlocking the same, of a tripping shell embracing the trip lever having an internal circumferential recess for the reception of the trip lever and for tripping the saiue, anid spring means for tensioning said trip lever carrying member with respect to said shell so that it will have an independent forward movement in combination with die head mechanism comprising a member carrying radially operating threading dies, a member slidably mounted thereon and carrying means for opening and closing the dies, and also carrying a trip lever for locking the closed dies and unlocking the same, of a tripping shell embracing the trip lever havin; an internal circumferential recess for the reception of the trip lever and for tripping the saiue, anid spring means for tensioning said trip lever carrying member with respect to said shell so that it will have an independent forward movement after the tripping shell is halted. |
