The clevis addresses issues arising from the use of three horses abreast.
One known example marked "PAT 2-15-98;" another marked only with part numbers "KKC and KKD," and a third marked in part "3000 A."
Appears in a 1917 Wm. Frankfurth Hardware (Milwaukee) catalog as STOWELL's Cross Thomas Patent Clevis, and in a 1924 STOWE SUPPLY Co (Kansas City) catalog as "STOWELL's Cross Clevis." "Generic" examples may not have any marking directly linking to this patent. Stowell's Cross Clevis appears in a 1955 Belknap Hardware & Mfg. Co. catalog.
612,415 Oct. 18, 1898 Combined anvil, vise, and drill Ole H. Hanson Litchfield, MN This patent covers the "Hanson Vise" that was manufactured and sold by the Stowell Mfg. & Foundry Co. of Milwaukee. At the time, combination anvil-vise-drills were popular for use on farms and in repair shops that could not justify the cost and space for separate tools.
